Tosi worked with Luchino Visconti (from Bellissima, in 1951, onwards), Luigi Zampa, Franco Brusati, Mauro Bolognini, Mario Soldati, Dino Risi, Luigi Comencini, Mario Monicelli, Vittorio De Sica, Antonio Pietrangeli, Marco Ferreri, Federico Fellini, Lina Wertmüller, Alberto Lattuada, Renato Castellani, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Liliana Cavani, Fabio Carpi, Franco Zeffirelli, Gianni Amelio. He also worked in prose theatre, opera and television, not only as a costume designer, but also as set decorator and hairdresser.
The monographic issue of «Bianco e nero» examines the multifaceted and vast experience of the great costume designer Piero Tosi, five times Academy Awards nominee and later Academy Honorary Award recipient.
