The preserved and restored works range from silent film masterpieces to experimental films, as well as from documentaries to the great classics of post-war cinema. Thanks to the vast collection of films stored in its archives, the Cineteca Nazionale has always supported restorations conducted by other Italian film libraries, such as the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin and the Cineteca di Bologna.

The Cineteca Nazionale shows its restorations into the most famous national and international festivals, such as the Venice International Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlinale, the Turin Film Festival, the “Cinema Ritrovato” Film Festival of Bologna and the “Giornate del Cinema Muto” of Pordenone.

Each restoration of the Cineteca Nazionale provide the creation of preservation elements on film, believing that this support constitutes the best guarantee of long-term survival for the cinematographic heritage. The Cineteca Nazionale is also involved in the digitization of the heritage, in order to make it accessible to the widest possible audience on the national territory and abroad.

In 2016 we published a book about our restorations: La memoria del cinema, curated by Sergio Toffetti (Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Silvana Editoriale). The book is available on our bookshop.
