He had just wrapped filming <em>Il sol dell\u2019avvenire<\/em>, and was beginning editing. About the same time, he was overseeing the restoration of <em>Sogni d\u2019oro<\/em> in the Cineteca Nazionale\u2019s lab (inside the Centro Sperimentale), which was later screened at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival. For this publication all Moretti\u2019s films were reviewed ex novo, by critics of very different ages: some of them were not even born when his first films, such as <em>Io sono un autarchico<\/em> and <em>Ecce Bombo<\/em>, were released. The reviews are complemented by essays by great writers, both Italian and international as well as reprints of some of the articles that appeared at the time in newspapers, or in books that are no longer in print, yet deserve to be reread. When in April 2023 we had the pleasure of watching <em>Il sol dell\u2019avvenire<\/em>, the satisfaction in producing this issue was, if possible, doubled. The film is both a summa of Nanni Moretti\u2019s own film philosophy and a fitting new departure towards new stories, fresh experiences. During the 2023-2024 season, Moretti will focus on directing two plays by Natalia Ginzburg, but more films will come soon, we are sure.
